RAMALLAH, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) will positively deal with a proposal presented by Egypt to rival Palestinian groups to achieve an inter-Palestinian reconciliation agreement, an official said on Thursday.
Yasser Abed Rabbo, the PLO executive committee secretary general, told reporters in the aftermath of a committee meeting held in Ramallah that the PLO decided to positively deal with the Egyptian paper.
The PLO executive meeting was chaired by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. Abed Rabbo said the Egyptian proposal contains a comprehensive vision for ending the inter-Palestinian rift.
"The executive committee had studied the Egyptian paper in depth, and all reservations are just to guarantee its success completely in order to end this status of inter-Palestinian split," said Abed Rabbo.
Egypt has recently presented a comprehensive proposal to the Palestinian factions, including rival Fatah and Islamic Hamas movement aiming at end more than three years of inter-Palestinian rift.
Abed Rabbo expressed the PLO and President Abbas' appreciation to the Egyptian proposal, adding "we will cooperate with Egypt in the coming stage in order to succeed the Egyptian initiative."
"We hope that the circumstances will help to the success of the initiative and see it practically implemented on the ground," said Abed Rabbo. Both Fatah and Hamas had earlier confirmed on Wednesday that they received Egypt's paper.
However, senior Fatah leader Azzam el-Ahmed said earlier on Wednesday that his movement is finding it strange to call for general presidential and legislative elections in the middle of 2010.
"We were astonished that elections would be held according to the Egyptian proposal on the Middle of 2010 although there is a previous agreement to hold it on Jan. 25, 2010," said el-Ahmed in a statement.
The Egyptian paper called for holding the general presidential and legislative elections in mid 2010, forming a joint security force and ending the current rift between Gaza, which is ruled by Hamas and the West Bank, ruled by Fatah.
The Palestinian faction leaders including Fatah and Hamas are due to join a comprehensive session of dialogue in Cairo early October to sign a reconciliation agreement, according to senior Palestinian sources.
