Moldovan justice minister appointed as acting premier

BUCHAREST, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin Thursday signed a decree to appoint Justice Minister Vitalie Pirlog as new acting prime minister.

    According to reports by the official Moldpres news agency reaching here, the president made the decision taking in consideration of the impossibility for acting Prime Minister Zinaida Greciani to exercise her powers, after she was elected MP in the list of the Party of Communists.

    The existing law prohibits combining the office of MP with any other job and the new parliament sets the deadline of September 14for deputies to either keep their parliamentary seats or give the mup for other jobs.

    According to the presidential decree, Vitalie Pirlog was appointed acting prime minister starting from September 14, 2009 and till a new government is formed.

    The parliament was elected in a snap poll on July 29 and is made up of 48 representatives of the Party of Communists, 18 of the Liberal Democratic Party, 15 of the Liberal Party, 13 of the Democratic Party and seven of the Our Moldova Alliance. The latter four parties signed early August a declaration on setting up a governing coalition.

    The parliament members are scheduled to set a date for the presidential election, after which the newly elected president will nominate the candidate for Prime Minister. Under the law, the candidate has 15 days to present the government program and the nominal list of the Cabinet members to the parliament.
